Twice as tough as Gore-Tex
The 2.5L rain jacket is one of cult Japanese brand Snow Peak’s most popular releases, and this latest version comes with a few upgrades on an already impressive piece of kit. It’s surprisingly light for such a waterproof garment, and the water-repellent treatment is insanely durable. Snow Peak claims that it’s twice as tough as Gore-Tex, and ten times as long-lasting as some other waterproof treatments. Long side zips offer plenty of ventilation, while a high collar and peaked hood will keep you protected even in a proper downpour. The 2022 version is more breathable, and the water-repellence is seriously improved. They’ve also made the pockets bigger, and tinkered with the hood design to improve the fit

- Waterproof and breathable material that uses a polycarbonate coating with plant-derived materials on the back of the fabric
- By using a polycarbonate coating, product deterioration due to hydrolysis does not easily occur and it is highly durable
- As an example, it has a hydrolysis resistance of 10 times or more than that of a general polyurethane film and 2 times or more than that of a PTFE film represented by Gore-Tex
- By finishing with 2.5 layers instead of 3 layers, both lightness and dryness of the skin are achieved

Snow Peak’s journey began in 1958, when the founder Yukio Yamai, an accomplished mountaineer, created his own line of superior climbing gear. Snow Peak then looked to evolve by shifting its focus from the mountaineering equipment of the past to the camping equipment of the future. Fueled by the booming national interest in auto-camping sweeping across Japan, Snow Peak released a series of radically innovative products which focused on quality, functionality, timeless-durability and considered design.
